I'm surprised to see that there are no threads on PSP, it even has 2 decent SW installments. So, who here has one and are you aware of/use homebrew?

Dont have a PSP but would really much like to get one. I just cant justify paying $200 for a little handheld especially after getting my Nintendo Wii for $250. Perhaps when the price drops. And I have heard great things about the star wars installments that were just released. Really would like to play and conquer. What is Homebrew?

I think the PSP is a little overrated. The system price is not that bad. It is a little more than the DS, but not by much. IMO, there are fewer games for the PSP and many of them just don't catch my attention. There are a lot of other things you can do with a PSP, but it requires you to by additional media/hardware. Also, these other little features will be trumped by the iphone. I think the PSP will go down in the next three years unless Sony can perform some magic with it.

I've got one and like it. Though I only have two games for it at the moment.

I'll get more as the go on sale.

Yeah, I was a bit bummed when I realized I'd have to get more stuff to make it truly net ready. Still haven't done that yet. Again, maybe when it goes on sale. But I am planning on getting an iPhone, so we'll see.

Really the design of the unit is fine, just not enough (good) titles right now to justify the start-up cost.

I bit and am fine with the decision, but had I the choice now, I think I might have waited.

The two games I have are "Daxter" and "Star Wars: Lethal Alliance." I'll be getting the new Ratchet and Clank when it comes out shortly. That one's titled, "Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters."

Boy are you off Bosh. First of all, DS requires more hardware to be on crappy par with PSP's media capabilities. PSP offers superior hardware power and screen resolution to that of the DS, but thats just technical comparison. As far as games, it stays true to Sony franchises, so its a matter of you liking them or not. There is no additional media/hard required, but there are dozens of firmware mods and yes, homebrew that makes the psp truly bloom unlike DS.

So, if you dont have a problem with piracy and enjoy applying software mods, psp really is the best thing out right now.

Well, you get what you pay for. Of course the DS has less hardware. It's smaller and cheaper. PSP games cost 25-50% more than DS or GBA games. So what if the DS is not on par with the PSP's media capabilities? I care about the games and things like battery life. The DS has a much longer battery life (roughly double) than the PSP.

The DS touch screen does offer a new dimension to gaming, but I would not consider it a feature that would decide whether or not a system is worth buying.

I would never buy a PSP for watching movies. It is more money (supports a different media type) than a typical portable DVD player.

I am also not one of those people who believe that better hardware makes a better system. Games make the system and I've been around long enough to be able to appreciate a game for what it is and not just eye candy.

I understand there are a lot of loyal PS and Nintendo owners out there and they defend their system of choice with extreme zeal. I used to be like that (back in grade school), but since I am only a casual gamer with no allegiance, I feel that I have a rather objective opinion.

To me the PSP is not what I consider an ideal portable gaming system.  As I said, it is a more complete portable media centre, but I think that something like the iphone will make the PSP obsolete as a media device.

I don't have a problem with piracy and modding per se (i.e. I wont lecture anyone on it), but I don't think it's good for the industry and I think it will catch up with the system (negatively) very soon.

Well, once again, the steep software prices of the psp and ds alike can be easily extiguished and when the two go head-to-head, in my opinion the psp is a hands-down winner in almost every factor. Pay about 300(core + 4GB) and enjoy a plethora of games, media, and useful/fun lil homebrew. At any rate, my personal hopes regarding SW is that LA makes a new Jedi game and ports it to the hand helds.

I think I fall more on Boshudas side of the gaming world, I was a nintendo Loyalist when in grade school but then I got a PS and some great games were released for that then the xbox came out and the PS2. So I now own a PS2, an Xbox and a nintendo Wii. Too many good games out there for all the systems for me to be a loyalist for nintendo. Though I must say, I have the nintendo Wii and since I bought it when it launched I have yet to touch my PS2 or my Xbox. Graphics are not equal to that of a PS3 or xbox 360 but graphics arent everything to me. I look for a fun factor in the games and storylines. Every game I have played for the wii so far is a BLAST! And that says a lot when you can practically pick up any game and enjoy the heck out of it.  I would love to get a PSP and I would also love to get a Nintendo DS, its as if comparing apples to oranges if you will. On one side you will have the people who likes the innovativeness of nintendo with their dual touch screen action of the DS or the way cool motion sensor wiimotes for the wii, you will also have, on the otherside, the people who care more about gaming that wants online gaming, the best graphics technology can produce and a multimedia center. Then there is what I like to call the grey area which is for people like me. Yes I bought a nintendo wii for its revolutionary design and capabilities, but not only that factor but also because I have internet, I have 3 DVD players and the mere fact I didnt have to dish out mad cash for playing a video game console, because when it really comes down to it, thats all I really want to do when I buy a video game system, PLAY VIDEO GAMES

Well, I had both DS and PSP for, about a year now, and I clocked 4x more time into the psp even though I had a DS a month or two earlier. Pirating solved the game expenses so I freely compared the raw fun of the system and psp came out a winner hands down. I stuck with sony for the games on their system and with nintendo for portables and now nintendo pretty much slumped in the fun factor for me.

It is, but keep in mind that the ratio of DS/PSP owners here in states alone that buys the games is greater than the pirates, so the systems should be fine. Also look at Japan, alot of people there live for the systems.

PSP SNES Emulator Problems... I have the emulator, but it's not loading games.?
I recently put CFW on my PSP 1000. It's 5.0 or something.

I've already got an Sega emulator on it, with a ton of Sega roms, and they all work fine.

But the SNES emulator isn't playing my games. It's that SNES9X one. It shows the games are there, but when ever I click to play one, it goes into a black screen. It's like this for all games. I've downloaded different forms of the SNES9X emulator, but I'm still having the same problem on all of them.
