Q&A Headlines - Week of September 5th, 2008

We took the last Q&A session off due to a lack of headline material.  But we're right back this week with the news you can use from this week's Q&A Session with Hasbro!

HEADLINE - NEW REBEL SNOWSPEEDER IN THE WORKS

JEDI TEMPLE ARCHIVES

ANSWER:  We are working on a new Snowspeeder, but it's taking longer than we hoped to fit it into the line.  It would not be in 2009 in any case, and we agree with you that it would be a good basic vehicle for the $19.99 lineup if we can get the beastie to cost out.

GOLD 5:  Hasbro has previously mentioned in informal Q&A settings that they would like to revisit the Rebel Snowspeeder with a modern rendition.  Keep checking back at JTA as we continue to cover this developing story.

HEADLINE - MORE COMIC 2-PACK CHARACTERS REVEALED

ACTION FIGS

QUESTION:  Recently, Hasbro stated it was "less likely" that Aurra Sing would be updated with better articulation. Might Hasbro reconsider that position given the fact that she was a major villain in several comic series, and is an action-oriented character which thus merits a better-articulated figure? Aurra could go great in a comic pack with perhaps Sharad Hett, Ki-Adi-Mundi, Reess Kairn, Torgo Tahn, Senator Tikkes, Aayla Secura or even an updated Adi Gallia.

ANSWER:  We don't rule out that someday we could update Aurra Sing, but she isn't high on our list right now given some of the other figures we have coming. The version of Aurra that we have right now (last released in 2006) is, we think, still a very solid figure and the need to update her isn't as pressing....at least for now. You'll see, too, why at least two of your choices would not be good ones, as they are both coming out in the same pack in late Spring 2009.

GOLD 5:  We can't state definitively which two characters Hasbro is referring to with this response.  However, there was a notable Dark Horse comics storyline called OUTLANDER that featured both Sharad Hett and Ki-Adi Mundi in prominent roles.  Call it a prediction, but this set may be likely, and you may see Ki-Adi Mundi with a hat!

HEADLINE - WEDGE ANTILLES DELAYED

GALACTIC HUNTER

QUESTION:  Many months ago you mentioned in a Q&A that a new Wedge Antilles figure was coming in 2008. Is this still the case, or have plans changed?

ANSWER:  Unfortunately, plans have changed due to the lateness of the set he was in and we just couldn't make it to shelf in time for this year. The set he is in will be coming later in 2009.

GOLD 5:  Unfortunate news that Wedge has been pushed back.  But this response seems to indicate that Wedge was to be packed in some sort of multi-pack.  From the wording of the response, it seems that Wedge may have been part of an Evolutions set.  Keep checking back for more information as it develops.

HEADLINE - MAIN EWOK RESCULPTS VERY LIKELY

IMPERIAL SHIPYARDS

QUESTION:  Hasbro, given the newly established and corrected scale of ewok  figures, how long are we going to have to wait for a corrected Wicket or Logray for that matter?  Given that Wicket is the most prominent of all the ewoks, he would seem to demand an upgrade.

ANSWER:  They are on the "short list" (ha ha!) of Ewoks that we would like to do soon.  Soon in this case means in the next 1-2 years, so we are confidentthat your patience will be rewarded.

GOLD 5:  There have been a number of hints that some of the chief Ewoks from RETURN OF THE JEDI might be getting revisited in the near future.  Wicket's name continues to be mentioned on numerous rumor lists.

HEADLINE - MORE JABBA UPDATES!!!

JEDI NEWS

QUESTION:  Will there be any more figures from The Clone Wars movie after Wave 3?  We'd love to see a Ziro and Jabba in the animated style and think that they would make a great battle pack (hint hint)!  Also, whilst talking about Jabba, will there be a non-animated version with throne anytime soon - it's been 24 years - and in need of a re-sculpt and re-issue?

ANSWER:  There will be a new Jabba in Clone Wars style released late in the year, in the Battle Pack series.  Right now there are no plans for Ziro but we are fielding a lot of interest in the character so do not rule out the possibility for sometime well down the road (since he would require a new sculpt and we currently do not have him slotted in).  As for a new 'classic" Jabba - we hear you and are developing plans, but you will have to wait a while yet.  We can promise he will be worth the wait...

GOLD 5:  Hasbro has previously commented on the status of Jabba figures.  This response indicates that a Clone Wars version will probably be offered in a Battle Pack some time around the holidays.  And a RETURN OF THE JEDI version is a likely offering for 2009.

HEADLINE - THE FORCE UNLEASHED STORMTROOPER COMMANDER - STILL NO COMMENT

JEDI NEWS

QUESTION:  With The Force Unleashed just around the corner, we remember seeing carded images of a Stormtrooper Commander (with blue markings) and wondered if this was ever going to be released? (editor's note: here's a link to a report on Jedi News - http://www.jedinews.co.uk/news/news.aspx?newsID=740)

ANSWER:  We're sorry, but we don't have any updated news from our friends at Lucasfilm to share with you.  We have asked them for a bigger picture of where and how this figure will appear so we can pass it on as quickly as possible and get the word out.

GOLD 5:  This has been the standard response regarding THE FORCE UNLEASHED Stormtrooper Commander figure.  Samples are starting to filter out via online auction sites.  Common conjecture is that the figure will be offered to people who have pre-ordered THE FORCE UNLEASHED video game, as was done with STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT and the Battlefront Scout Trooper.

HEADLINE - SUPER ARTICULATED REBEL TROOPS ON THE WAY IN 2009 & 2010

JEDIDEFENDER

QUESTION:  It seems like every so often, someone will bug you in the Q&A about the lack of SA Rebels, so we figure itís our turn this month. Where do we stand on the SA Rebel Trooper redos? Have you had a chance to slot us in that new SA Rebel Fleet Trooper or SA Hoth Trooper yet?

ANSWER:  There will be a new SA Hoth Rebel Trooper in a Spring 2009 wave. A new Rebel Fleet Trooper has not been slotted in yet, but we are looking for an opportunity to get it in, hopefully in 2010.

GOLD 5:  This is a response that should really make the army builders happy.  The Rebel Fleet Trooper doesn't seem 100% confirmed based on the response, but for Hasbro to mention it the character is probably on a short list for an ANH wave.

HEADLINE - CLONE WARS KIT FISTO CONFIRMED

MOUSEDROID

QUESTION:  I have a couple of questions about everyone's favourite Nautolan Jedi, Kit Fisto:
A) After seeing the upcoming figures for Clone Wars line, I can't wait for an Animated style Kit Fisto. What information, if any, can you provide us on his release?
B) After getting a couple of the recently released Clone Scuba Troopers and posing them with the shirtless Kit Fisto, I realised that this is a figure that needs a serious overhaul. Basically he only has 2 poses standing and diving. To improve the figures possibility and give him more 'underwater action poses' he needs ball-jointed shoulders, elbows, waist and knees. His ankles are fine as they are and if you wanted to perhaps give him ball-jointed hips. What, if any, are the chances of this figure being updated in the future with any or all of these suggestions?

ANSWER:  Kit is one of our favorites too, so you can bet that if there's one coming in the animation we'll be there with a new version (so consider it confirmed, for release sometime early 2009). As for an updated version of the "underwater" Kit from the first Clone Wars, it's a great suggestion but at this point it's unlikely we'll significantly upgrade that tool since he's based on the previous Clone Wars..

GOLD 5:  Kit Fisto has been shown in some of the CLONE WARS trailers for the television series.  Hasbro confirms a figure slot for him in the animated line with this reponse.

HEADLINE - NEW GUNGAN ON THE WAY IN 2009

MOUSEDROID

QUESTION:  Has the absence of Jar-Jar Binks from the toy line since 2002's Attack of the Clones been a conscious decision on behalf of Hasbro? It seems a little suspicious that you maintain that kids are the core buyers of the Star Wars action figure line and yet poor ol' Jar-Jar gets neglected year after year - even though he's essentially a character that's aimed towards kids. Is there any chance that we may see a brand new lanky Gungan either in the 'realistic' line, or the Clone Wars animated line?

ANSWER:  We have been Gungan-lite for a long time now, preferring to focus elsewhere for Episode I newness. However, we do have our sites set on a new Gungan for 2009, and we will probably be looking at a new Jar-Jar in 2010 or beyond.

GOLD 5:  This is a second mention from Hasbro about a Gungan in the 2009 line.  Speculation had been that it could be a new Gungan warrior.  Also, the EPISODE I Fambaa driver Gungan had placed well in the Fan's Choice Saga Legends voting, but didn't place in one of the winning slots.  However, there are also rumors that this figure could be a new rendition of Captain Tarpals.

HEADLINE - SANDSTORM LEIA A POSSIBILITY FOR 2010

SIR STEVE'S GUIDE

QUESTION:  Since you just gave us 3 of the 5 characters with their unique sandstorm costumes, can we expect Sandstorm Lando and Leia to finish out the sandstorm scene? There was some confusion about the Leia figure, going back and forth on whether it'd be done in the future, and we're not really sure where it stands now; and Lando simply didn't get an answer on at all. So, can we complete this nifty deleted scene some day, and when? Basics or battle pack, whatever it takes to complete the scene, right?

ANSWER:  We are hoping to get to Leia in 2010, but had not slotted Lando in. That's a good suggestion for completing that scene, so we'll take a look at Lando as a possibility when we bring out Leia.

GOLD 5:  This doesn't seem to be a firm committment, but it's an interesting look at how Hasbro is trying to keep core characters slotted into the Basic Figure line with some different takes on the characters.

HEADLINE - DEFECTIVE AT-TE'S - HASBRO IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND PREPARED TO HELP

SIR STEVE'S GUIDE

QUESTION:   While the AT-TE is an amazing toy, an issue has arisen that with the leg joints popping back out rather than supporting the weight of this massive vehicle. Inflicting battle damage can be fun for play, but only when it's intentional. Many fans report even slight pressure applied to the top of the vehicle - say, perhaps, like pressing a button to reveal the rear deck or set off sound effects - causes either hip or knee joints to pop out of their sockets. Are you aware of this issue? Is this intentional to avoid breakage, and if so, isn't it a little more aggressive at this task than need be? Will this be addressed in later releases or perhaps mail-away adapters or something?

ANSWER:  Glad you wrote us, and help spread the word. We have confirmed that some of the AT-TE's do have middle legs that breakaway more easily than intended (breakaway legs are a deliberate design feature of the vehicle). We have addressed this and we offer replacement middle legs through our Hasbro Customer Service Dept that should solve the issue. Consumer Affairs can be reached through our web site at hasbro.com. We are sorry for any inconvenience. Our objective is to make sure that consumers are 100% satisfied with their AT-TE, so anyone who is having an issue, please contact us.

GOLD 5:  It's very good to see Hasbro acting in a responsive fashion to defective product.  I have seen reports of people saying that their AT-TE legs were falling off.  You can contact Hasbro Customer Service through links at THIS PAGE.

HEADLINE - SARLACC PIT SUITS BOTH THEATRICAL & SPECIAL EDITION RELEASES OF RETURN OF THE JEDI

THE JAWA

QUESTION:  For the upcoming Sarlacc Pit battlepack, will the Skiff get a new deco given how far paint apps have come from PotF2 days? Could Hasbro also look at making the legs used to prop up the vehicle out of a transparent plastic rather than opaque, this way it would heighten the illusion of the skiff "floating" above the pit.  And finally, can you confirm for us that the beak is removable so that we purists who prefer to display the pit without the special edition alterations can also do so?

ANSWER:  We can confirm that the Skiff will sport a new, more updated paint job, but we kept the legs the same color since they are in a shared tool with many of the other parts.  Running the tool a second time to get clear legs was not an option, unfortunately.  Also, we can confirm that the beak is removable.  Purists rejoice!

GOLD 5:  Hasbro flew this detail in under the radar.  The Sarlacc's beak is removable, so if you want your Sarlacc pit to look like it did in the theatrical release of RETURN OF THE JEDI, you can do that with ease.

LATE ADDITION!

HEADLINE - REPUBLIC COMMANDO ON THE WAY VIA EVOLUTIONS

RAVING TOY MANIAC

QUESTION:  Is a super-articulated Republic Commando figure in the works yet?

ANSWER:  Right now, we do have an update slotted into the last wave of Evolution packs in Spring 2009, pending all schedules working in our favor.

GOLD 5:  There has been a rumor of an Evolutions set called EVOLUTION OF THE COMMANDOS.  Speculation has it that it would include a reworked Republic Commando.  Hasbro confirms that with this response.

Keep checking back for more Q&A Headlines as we continue to sift through all of the Hasbro Star Wars Q&A's for the news you can use!  MTFBWY!!!
