HASBRO STAR WARS Q&A HEADLINES - WEEK OF DECEMBER 19th, 2008

Check out the news you can use from the latest Hasbro Q&A session.  We've distilled down the Q&A process so that you can get right to the heart of the matter.  Because these are the things that Hasbro is confirming, so read on!

HEADLINE - NEW SULLSUTAN PILOT ON THE WAY

JEDI TEMPLE ARCHIVES

QUESTION:  In a March Q&A session with 4-Inches.De Hasbro stated the following:
"We really like the Rebel Pilots, and can guarantee that not too far down the road there will be a red-suited Sullustan pilot."

Our tracking of the Q&A sessions has indicated that there are still some spots in the early 2009 RETURN OF THE JEDI wave which have yet to be filled.   Could we see this previously mentioned red-suited Sullustan pilot in the basic figure line?  And could it in fact be an update on Nien Nunb?  The previous version is a 1997 figure and is in dire need of being brought up to the current aesthetic.

ANSWER:  There is indeed a red-suited Sullustan pilot in the wave, in the B-Wing outfit developed for the Evolution packs.  Our hope is that it will be named Nien Numb, but we are working with Lucasfilm on that now and have not nailed it down yet.

GOLD 5:  Hasbro commits to a red-suited Sullustan for the upcoming RETURN OF THE JEDI wave of figures.  However it remains unclear as to whether or not this will be Nein Nunb as depicted in the Millenium Falcon as Lando's co-pilot.  Keep checking for more on this story as it develops.  Pictures of this wave may be coming in a future edition of the STAR WARS INSIDER.

HEADLINE - MORE DETAILS ON CONCEPT ART FIGURES

COLLECTION STATION

QUESTION:  Now that you've confirmed that there will be 4 new concept figures in '09, that one of them is Anakin, and that they'll be from both OT and PT sources, could you confirm whether the other 3 concept figures will be based on major characters (i.e. Vader, Obi-Wan, Yoda, Maul) or can we expect to see some obscure character and even alien design concepts, such as the Mon Calamari Dancer from the Galaxies Opera House or the Revwien alien from original Cantina alien drawings?

ANSWER:  One will be a top-tier named character, two will be secondary named (but prominent) characters, and the fourth will be a trooper concept.

GOLD 5:  Hasbro remains somewhat mum on the actual characters for the upcoming concept art figures.  Keep checking back for more info.  We are likely to see these at the NY International Toy Fair.

HEADLINE - CLONE WARS BASIC FIGURE LINE ON PACE FOR 40 FIGURES.  100+ BASIC FIGURES LIKELY OVERALL

HAN'S HIDEOUT

QUESTION:  Thanks for the info on the 2009 Legacy basic figure plan. Now that we know to plan for 54 new Legacy figures in 2009, how about a ballpark for the Clone Wars basic figures planned for 2009? Still in the 36-40 figure (6-8 waves) range for 2009?

ANSWER:  Yes, we are still in the 40+ basic figure range for Clone Wars.

GOLD 5:  The Clone Wars line gets a healthy number of Basic Figure releases for 2009 with Hasbro confirming over 40 figures for the year.  And with 54 figure slots confirmed for THE LEGACY COLLECTION plus the SAGA LEGENDS line we appear to be on pace for over 100 Basic Figures to be released in 2009.  And this is before taking into account the Comic 2-packs, Battle Packs and Vehicles with figure pack-ins.

HEADLINE - TOYS R US EXCLUSIVE CLONE WARS VEHICLES DUE IN STORES THIS SPRING

HAN'S HIDEOUT

QUESTION:  A few weeks ago, you sent out pictures of a pair of upcoming TRU exclusive Clone Wars vehicles with pack-in figures (Hailfire Droid and V-Wing). Any update on when these are scheduled to appear on the shelves?

ANSWER:  They are scheduled to appear on-shelf around April next year. It's possible they could be out in March but April should be the latest.

GOLD 5:  The vehicles in question are a repainted Hailfire Droid with Clone Wars General Grievous SEEN HERE and a V-Wing fighter with Clone Pilot SEEN HERE.

HEADLINE - SUPER VULTURE DROID DETAILS

IMPERIAL SHIPYARDS

QUESTION:  Is the Super Vulture Droid that's being released in the Clone Wars 3D line the same thing as the Hyena Droid Bomber?

ANSWER:  No, the Hyena Bomber Droid is a unique ship.  The "Super Vulture Droid" is a larger and more true-to-scale version of the Vulture Droid. We use the word "super" in this case to describe its size and function as compared to the original Vulture Droid.

GOLD 5:  Photos of the Super Vulture Droid which can be SEEN HERE reveal some details, but not the overall size of the vehicle.  However it is a standalone vehicle in the Starfighter assortment, whereas the EPISODE I droid starfighters were packaged as a trio on a handle.  Images of the new Super Vulture Droid reveal that it has wing mounted missiles, similar to what we see in the Battle of Coruscant scene in REVENGE OF THE SITH.

HEADLINE - GALACTIC HEROES SNOWSPEEDER

JEDI NEWS

QUESTION:  You mentioned recently that a Galactic Heroes Snowspeeder is in the pipeline, and with that in mind, can you share an image of what the new 2009 Galactic Heroes Snowspeeder will look like and tell us what figure(s) it will come packaged with?  Can you also advise what the likely date for UK availability will be?

ANSWER:  Here you go [The picture was not attached but we're chasing it].  This should give you a good idea of how cool this one will be.  We do not know yet when it will be exactly available in the UK, but our expectation is around April or May.

GOLD 5:  Hasbro seemed set up to reveal the new Galactic Heroes Snowspeeder, but a SNAFU seems to have occurred.  Keep checking back at JEDI NEWS for an update with the image.

HEADLINE - CLONE WARS SENATE COMMANDO CONFIRMED

JEDI NEWS

QUESTION:  There are lots of new characters coming out of The Clone Wars, but in particular I would like to know if Hasbro will be releasing a Senate Commando figure (the blue armoured variant of the Senate Guard)?  If so, how likely are we to see a red variant as an "off camera" Red Guard Commando?

ANSWER:  Yes indeed, we will be releasing a blue guard next year in the Clone Wars basic figure lineup.  No plan for a red version yet, but if it shows up in the animation it's a good bet we'll follow.

GOLD 5:  Hasbro confirms the CLONE WARS Senate Commando for the CLONE WARS Basic Figure lineup in 2009.  There's no word on wave placement.  This character was seen in the CLONE WARS episode "CLOAK OF DARKNESS".

HEADLINE - POSSIBLE HINT AT A WEDGE ANTILLES X-WING

RAVING TOY MANIAC

QUESTION:  The decision to make the latest B-Wing with squadron colors from the Rebellion comic series threw many for a loop. At a time where the design team seems to be having some fun with designs, is it possible to see some fun repaints of older vehicles? I for one would love to see Wedge's X-Wing in his Bacta War paint job.

ANSWER:  What can we say - we loved the collaboration with Dark Horse that resulted in the creation of the Dagger Squadron and the very cool "origin" story for the B-Wing. As for Wedge's X-Wing, we would likely do his iconic EpIV X-Wing first.

GOLD 5:  There have been some rumblings about a Toys R Us exclusive Wedge Antilles X-Wing in the pipeline.  There may have even been a packaging mockup.  Hasbro's  mention of the Red 2 X-Wing indicates that the rumors may be true.

HEADLINE - HASBRO CALLS BASTILA SHAN & CIN DRALLIG "HIGHLY PROBABLE" BASIC FIGURE CANDIDATES

REBELSCUM

QUESTION:  Since the TFU wave in addition to other various released figures proved that Video Game based figures sell well does it mean there's is a very good chance of seeing more like Atris, Bao-Dur, Bastila Shan, Blaze Trooper, Cin Drallig, Clone Assassin, Jolee Bindo, Juhani, Mission Vao, Selkath, Serra Keto, or Visas Marr?

ANSWER:  Some of those characters are certainly possibilities. The EpIII ones, in particular, are interesting candidates since they are versions of Clones. As for the rest, Bastila Shan and Cin Drallig are highly probable over the next couple of years. As for the rest, we may have to wait and see...if we do another fans' vote, we may look to the overall results to see what game characters bubble to the top of the request list. We know we aren't going to have that many extra slots to devote to game characters, so we need to make sure that we select the best, especially for older games.

GOLD 5:  Hasbro has yet to confirm any characters for 2009's REVENGE OF THE SITH wave there seems to be a possibility of Cin Drallig being slotted into that wave.  And with an Expanded Universe wave in the pipeline as well, and factoring in KOTOR's huge success, Bastila Shan could be a prime candidate for that wave.  We may find out more about the ROTS wave at Toy Fair, but the EU wave may be pushed back to early 2010 according to Hasbro.

HEADLINE - COLEMAN TREBOR ON THE WAY IN EXCLUSIVE 2-PACK

REBELSCUM

QUESTION:  Can you give us any info on the theme of the new two-packs next year that will be replacing the Order 66 two-packs? Can we expect to see Coleman Trebor (recently an early photo surfaced showing what appears to be a new version of this figure) in this two pack line, or will he be in the Wal-Mart Droid Factory two packs? Will he be paired up with the Geonosis Battle Droid Commander?

ANSWER:  Coleman Trebor is indeed in the new 2-pack series lined up to replace Order 66. It is not the Wal-Mart Droid Factory packs, but another theme. We don't want to give away the theming just yet, but we can't wait to show more around Toy Fair timing.

GOLD 5:  The retooled Coleman Trebor figure is due out in what is likely to be a Target Exclusive 2-Pack.  Hasbro remains mum on the theme of these new 2-packs.  But given the fact that ORDER 66 was an ongoing Target exclusive, this new line of 2-packs seems to be lined up for Target stores.  If Hasbro remains true to schedule on the release dates, these should be out in spring 2009.

HEADLINE - EVOLUTIONS TO BE PUT ON HOLD

SANDTROOPERS

QUESTION:  What's the possibility of a Naboo Queen Evolution Set with Queen Apilana Queen Jamillia and a new Queen Amidala figure, or just the first two being released?

ANSWER:  After the last three Evolutions sets next Summer, the line will be put on hiatus and we do not know when/if it will be back.  It is a popular format, so we don't rule out its return some day.  If it does return, the pack you mentioned is a very interesting one.  It might also be likely that we get to the Queens before then.  If we do, Jamillia would be the first and most important one to do.

GOLD 5:  This is unfortunate news for fans of the EVOLUTIONS format.  Hasbro has confirmed at least 3 new EVOLUTIONS packs for 2009 which you can see in OUR 2009 LEGACY COLLECTION LINE INDEX.  It is unclear if there are any EVOLUTIONS sets planned beyond these three, but it seems clear that either the expense or the sales of this line have made it prohibitive for Hasbro to continue with this line of 3-packs which has proven to be popular with collectors.

HEADLINE - CLONE WARS MAGNAGUARD DETAILS

SIR STEVE'S GUIDE

QUESTION:  In the Comic-Con presentation, the Clone Wars Magnaguard was shown to include an alternate, cloak-wearing head. Now that carded images have shown up, it appears as though this extra head is not included. Is it actually included and just hidden behind the insert, or is it another case of an accessory being taken out due to cost? If it is the latter, then can we expect a variant down the road?

ANSWER:   We had originally planned to do the cloaked version first (with the sculpted cloak head), but cost pressures forced us to go forward with just the one mode. We hope to be able to do the version with the cloak in 2010.

GOLD 5:  This image from Hasbro's Comic Con presentation is the basis for this question.

Look for a likely running change on the Magna Guard down the line.

HEADLINE - CORPORATE ALLIANCE TANK DROID STRONGLY HINTED AT BY HASBRO

SIR STEVE'S GUIDE

QUESTION:  Assuming you do decide to make the Corporate Alliance Tank Droid, which last you told us was likely since it is in the Clone Wars cartoon, would it have a cockpit and working treads? What other features would you put into it?

ANSWER:  To do this vehicle in the Starfighter Vehicle assortment, which is the most likely place it would go if we did green light it someday, we would not be able to solve all the demands of size, features, inside figure capacity, and treads without making strategic choices to be able to afford it. We would probably not design working treads, but would make sure that we can fit a couple figures inside while maintaining the overall aesthetic of the vehicle and looking for features to add elsewhere (like missiles for example).

GOLD 5:  Hasbro's response here seems to indicate that some R&D may have already gone into the Tank Droid.  Their answer in no way constitutes confirmation, but it appears that the Tank Droid is indeed on their radar screens of vehicles to offer down the line.

HEADLINE - DROID COMMANDO FIGURE CONFIRMED, OTHER BATTLE DROIDS ON THE WAY

THE JAWA

QUESTION:  Any chance of seeing a figure made of the Droid Commando or any of the other "new" Battle Droids that were recently featured in the Clone Wars series?

ANSWER:  Certainly….the Droid Commando and several other cool new droids will be coming in the Clone Wars basic figure lineup next year, in addition to a few other formats as well (Battle Packs, etc).  Stay tuned!

GOLD 5:  This is something of a redundant response as Hasbro confirmed a Commando Droid in the last Q&A Session.  Check that out in THE DECEMBER 5th HEADLINE REPORT.   However Hasbro also lets us know that some additional Battle Droids are in the pipeline.  Most likely those will have paint apps similar to those of Battle Droids in specific episodes of THE CLONE WARS like in "Ambush" or "Destroy Malevolence".

HEADLINE - UPDATED STORMTROOPER DUE IN 2009

YAKFACE

QUESTION:  Will you be updating the Stormtrooper mold in 2009/2010 to include the new style blaster holster utilized on the new Han and Luke Stormtrooper figures? Also, are there plans to upgrade the stormtrooper to give it the new ball wrist and hip joints like the Commander Gree has from TAC 2008?

ANSWER:   We will be updating the Stormtrooper to include the new belt later in 2009. As for a new ball wrist and hip joints for the classic Stormie, that's under consideration for further down the road.

GOLD 5:  The upcoming Han Solo and Luke Skywalker in Stormtrooper disguise will apparently be the basis for an upcoming Stormtrooper release.  And according to this response, that will be some time in 2009.

HEADLINE - AOTC EVOLUTIONS CLONE PILOT TO BE REISSUED

YAKFACE

QUESTION:  Now that we have a better sculpted Ep3 Clone Pilot in the Evolution line, when can we expect to see named pilots such as Oddball and Capt. Jag' Gakaar from Ep3 in the Legacy Collection as I have a few Republic Gun Ships and ARC-170s with no crew members? Also on the topic of Clone Pilots do you have any plans to release or re-release the Ep2 Clone Pilot any time soon in the legacy or Saga Legends collection? The 2002 Saga version is becoming impossible to find anywhere thesedays at a fair common sense price.

ANSWER:  Eventually, we do hope to get the EpIII pilots (especially Jag) out there in quality bodies. The EpII pilot, from the Evolution packs, will be out as a "greatest hits" sub line figure in the Legacy/Droid Factory waves, starting with the EpII wave next Spring. Oddball and Jag have yet to be slotted into the mainline or exclusive lineup, but given time there is no doubt they will be.

GOLD 5:  The AOTC Evolutions Clone Pilot is on tap to be re-released on a single card as part of what may be the SAGA LEGENDS line.  Hasbro's ambiguous response seems to indicate that the Greatest Hits line may be revamped in some way.  Along the way they get back to the heart of this question and say that named pilots from REVENGE OF THE SITH are likely to be released as repaints of the Episode III Evolutions Clone Pilot.

HEADLINE - CLONE WARS GALACTIC HEROES 2-PACKS ON THE WAY

YODA'S NEWS

QUESTION:  Are we going to see more Galactic Heroes based off the Clone Wars line (specifically from the new Animated Series). And if so, will we also see some sets specific to certain episodes and adventures?

ANSWER:  Yes, in fact most of our upcoming Galactic Heroes 2-packs will be based on the new characters from the animated Clone Wars series. We will also look for inspiration for Cinema Scenes sets as well, such as the currently available Obi-Wan with Starfighter.

GOLD 5:  Hasbro does not get into specifics, but they do confirm that there will be Galactic Heroes 2-packs derived from the CLONE WARS television series.  There are indications that there is an Asajj Ventress and Ahsoka Tano 2-pack on the way already.

Keep checking back for the news you can use from the Hasbro Star Wars Q&A sessions as more sites continue to file their reports.
