HASBRO STAR WARS Q&A HEADLINES - WEEK OF DECEMBER 10th, 2009

Check out the news you can use from the latest Hasbro Q&A session!  We've distilled down the Q&A process so that you can get right to the heart of the matter.  Because these are the things that Hasbro is confirming, so read on!

HEADLINE - EXPANDED UNIVERSE WAVE IS THE FINAL WAVE OF THE LEGACY COLLECTION; FUTURE WAVE DETAILS

JEDI TEMPLE ARCHIVES

QUESTION:  Looking forward to 2010, we've been seeing indications about potential wave themes for the Legacy basic figure line.  Particularly, that there will not be a wave of figures representing A NEW HOPE.  Will the Legacy Collection and the following movie based figure line that's set to launch next summer continue to follow an individual movie theme for each wave?  And can you give us an indication of which movies will be represented in these waves for 2010?

ANSWER:   The EU wave that was shown at Comic Con will be the last of the red/white Legacy series for Spring 2010. The Legacy-type basic figure line scheduled to launch next Fall will follow a wave theme to ensure that each movie gets one focused wave, then we will change to a non-wave based system. The way it looks currently, there will be Fall 2010 waves for EpII, III, V, and VI (not in that order) with EpI and IV getting waves at the beginning of 2011.

GOLD 5:  For more on this, check out JTA's front page article.  The short version?  The EU wave which is the next Legacy wave set to ship will be THE LAST wave of Legacy Collection Basic Figures until approximately July or August of 2010.

Future movie themed waves are set to breakdown as follows:
FALL 2010 (WAVE ORDER TBD)
ATTACK OF THE CLONES
REVENGE OF THE SITH
THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK
RETURN OF THE JEDI

SPRING 2010
THE PHANTOM MENACE
A NEW HOPE

Following these 6 waves Hasbro will be reverting to waves that are no longer based around a single movie theme.

HEADLINE - TESB WAVE SET TO FEATURE HAN SOLO

JEDI TEMPLE ARCHIVES

QUESTION:  A number of collectors expressed disappointment with the recent news that a Bespin Han Solo figure, which had been previously confirmed, has been pushed back in the pipeline.  The news from Comic Con seemed to indicate that THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK would be a core theme for 2010's line as the 30th anniversary of that movie.  Can we perhaps expect a different Episode V Han Solo in place of the Bespin version?  And might that be an update of Han Solo in carbonite?  We have not seen a TESB version of Han in carbonite since the POTF2 days.

ANSWER:   We don't think we will disappoint, as there will be a different EpV version of Han Solo in next Fall's figure lineup.  It will not be an EpV Carbonite version. A new Bespin Han is slated for 2011.

HAN'S HIDEOUT

QUESTION:  Again, a follow up from previous - no Bespin Han in 2010, eh? I have to tell you, that's a huge bummer to a big Han fan like myself. With the 30th Anniversary of ESB, I thought he'd be a lock for 2010. Now you have to tell me which Han we're getting in 2010 so I can regain confidence that my main man is going to be treated all right in 2010! If you can't tell us which Han it is, can you at least tell us the source he's from?

ANSWER:  Bespin Han has been pushed out to 2011, to make room for a *new* Han that we have not produced before. We can't tell you exactly which one just yet, but it is from a brief scene and features a new jacket. We were excited to be able to deliver some newness for next year with the 30th Anniversary of EpV on tap.

GOLD 5:  Hasbro's response leaves us somewhat mystified.  A very good Hoth gear Han Solo was issued in 2007's Vintage figure line, and Hasbro is saying that a Bespin Han Solo has been pushed back to 2011.  Plus, there's no confirmation of a new Han Solo in carbonite at this time.

The most likely candidate seems to be Han Solo from Echo Base, which is something of a cross between Han Solo in Hoth gear and the Bespin gear.  And indications from Hasbro in this July Q&A session with Han's Hideout seem to lean towards this new version of Han Solo for the fall TESB wave.

UPDATE!  Check out this image of Han Solo in the costume that may be the basis for this new figure:

HEADLINE - SIZE OF THE 2010 LINE

DEWBACK PATROL

QUESTION:  With next years line up completed can we get some of my favorite info? How many Legacy figures? How many CW figures? What movies will be represented? How many waves? How many figures from each movie? How many comic packs? How many of the super build a droid figures that I hope continue? Any info would be great! Thanks!

ANSWER:  In the Legacy-type line, there will be one EU-focused wave to close out the red/white line look, and then a gap until August when the new movie-focused line will debut. This wave will feature the last of the buildable Droid Factory figures. In Fall, there will be waves for EpII, II, V, and VI (although not in that order) with about 24 new/retooled characters for Fall debuting along with a number of "greatest hits" (package refreshed) to round out the waves. There are about 32 new Clone Wars characters between spring and Fall. The last Comic Pack wave will be the Fall 2010 wave shown at Comic Con which will be out sometime in March; the Spring 2010 Comic Packs have been canceled, but we are looking for opportunities to bring these figures out in 2011.

GOLD 5:  Hasbro comments on the likely number of figures to be in the movie line as well as the Clone Wars line.  The short version?
-24 new or retooled movie based figures (plus some repacks)
-32 new Clone Wars figures

Several comic packs which appear to include:

___  #9 - REPUBLIC #83 Bogey Squad Clone Commander & Clone Trooper
___  #10 - ROUTINE VALOR Clone Lieutenant & Clone Trooper
___  #11 - Tales Of The Jedi #6 - Exar Kun & Ulic Qel-Droma
___  #12 - REPUBLIC #65 - Tholme & T'ra Saa
___  #13 - MARVEL Star Wars:  Early Adventures #3 Stormtrooper, Blackhole hologram & Security droid

However the fate of these comic 2-packs appears to be in question:

___  Knights Of The Old Republic #6 - Jarael & Rohlan Dyre
___  Legacy # 7 - Deliah Blue & Darth Nihl
___  HEIR TO THE EMPIRE #tbd - Noghri Warrior & Ralrracheen
___  STAR WARS: EMPIRE #8 - Camie & Fixer

HEADLINE - NEW AAYLA SECURA PLANNED FOR 2011

GALACTIC HUNTER

QUESTION:  In another past Q&A you stated that a new Aayla Secura figure missed the 2010 main line cut and may become an exclusive next year. Any update on this figure, or what particular version/costume we can expect? Is it possible to strike gold twice and ask to see a reference sketch? (Sorry, they're so cool.)

ANSWER:  The exclusive that might have featured her did not materialize.  We have a new Aayla Secura planned for the 2011 line.  No sketches are available at this time

GOLD 5:  Rumors have abounded about a new Aayla Secura around some forums over the past several months.  One can only think that this might be in response to her appearance in the Clone Wars series.  And along those lines an animated version of Aayla Secura is due out in the next wave of Clone Wars Basic Figure.

But this response indicates that a new version of Aayla Secura is being considered.  This seems to be not quite a confirmation, but a strong indicator of things to come.

HEADLINE - IMPERIAL SCANNING TROOPER VARIANT DELAYED INDEFINITELY

HAN'S HIDEOUT

QUESTION:  Following up on a question from a previous round of Q&A - we asked you about the future of the second Imperial Scanning Crewman and you said he's in the EU Wave... but that's the case where the second Bespin Guard is, so we think you may have confused your variants. Is the second Scanning Crewman displaced at the moment or will he definitely make the basic figure line in 2010, even if it takes a card change before we see him?

ANSWER:  We were trying to get the second Imperial Scanning Crew Member into the EU wave, but we can confirm now that this will *not* happen since all production has been wrapped up for the red/white Legacy lineup and the factory was not able to get the Crewman in. At this point, he will not be produced in the Legacy line. He remains an important variant to bring out and we will be looking for ways to get him into the line, but at this point it will likely not be before 2011. He *will* eventually make it out, but we just need time to slot him in.

GOLD 5:  Some fears about running changes in 2009/10 seem to have been confirmed with this response.  While Hasbro had given indications at Comic Con that the Imperial Scanning Trooper would be offered as a running change in the basic figure line, it appears that we will only be getting the one version that is shipping with the A NEW HOPE wave of figures.

Hasbro indicated at Comic Con that bringing so many running changes to retail was going to be a challenge.  And they have responded with the running change of the Ugnaught crossing from the TLC BLUE line into the TLC RED line.  We've also gotten indications that the running change of the Hoth Rebel Trooper will make it into a battle pack.

As for Hasbro's response about the Imperial Scanning Trooper?  It's disheartening.  But Hasbro seems to be committed in making certain that a figure that has been displayed publicly would eventually make it to market.  However, it seems likely that we would not see the running change of the Scanning Trooper before 2011.

HEADLINE - COLD WEATHER GEAR CLONE WARS FIGURES INCOMING

IMPERIAL SHIPYARDS

QUESTION:  We are all loving your new Freeco speeder and thought the frosted glass was a very nice touch. Wouldn't it have made more sense to release this great vehicle with a Winter Geared Obi Wan or Anakin or Captain Rex and are we going to see these nonproduced winter environment figures in the future?

ANSWER:  The characters were not ready when we had the reference for the vehicle, and we decided it was too good to wait.  And yes, you will see the winter figures next year

GOLD 5:  Carded and loose images of Anakin Skywalker in cold weather gear surfaced back in October.  Hasbro's response seems to indicate that additional characters from the Clone Wars episode "Trespass", like Obi-Wan Kenobi & Captain Red, may also be coming in new renditions featuring cold weather gear.

HEADLINE - REPAINTED JANGO FETT SET FOR 2010 RELEASE

JEDIDEFENDER

QUESTION:  On the topic of the recent "way too purple-y" Jango Fett figures: In a past Q&A answer, you said that (due to the timing) you couldn't change the Target Geonosis Arena Jango Fett to a blue/gray version, but that you had a blue/gray figure planned for 2010. Is that still happening? If so, are we talking basic figure line or some other release?

ANSWER:  We wanted the Target Geonosis pack to remain the current even more screen accurate color. A blue/gray Fett is planned for the basic figure line in 2010.

GOLD 5:  Hasbro's response indicates that a more screen accurate version of Jango Fett (in terms of deco) is set to be released in 2010.  Hasbro's additional indications that movie themed waves will continue to be in place through 2010 leads us to believe that this figure will be released in the basic figure line.  Although it seems to be unclear if this figure would be a Legacy type of offering or a Saga Legends figure.

HEADLINE - OOLA ON THE WAY IN 2010

JEDIDEFENDER

QUESTION:  The recent Fan's Choice Poll highlighted a few of the resculpts that the community is clamoring for (Tarkin, Ponda Baba, Dr. Evazan). We'd like to toss a few more out there for consideration as well - the Star Wars entertainers! What are the chances of revisiting and updating the Cantina Band Members, Jabba's Dancers (including Oola), or the Max Rebo Band Members?

ANSWER:  Oola is scheduled to appear in 2010 if all goes according to plan. Of the others, we'd like to see a new Bith musician at some point, but would not be for a few years. We just don't see doing anything with the Max Rebo band members for many years, if at all.

GOLD 5:  Oola has been rumored to be in the works for some time.  This response indicates that we're set to see this Twi'lek dancer some time next year.  However, there's speculation that she could be offered in any of a number of formats, from the basic figure line to a potential pack-in with the new Jabba the Hutt that is set for a 2010 release.

HEADLINE - DETAILS ON REMAINING COMIC 2-PACKS

SANDTROOPERS

QUESTION:  You have basically said on several sites that the comic packs are not meeting sales expectations. my question is how will this affect the throm and exar kun wave and the walmart exclusive wave? will these still be released this year?

ANSWER:  Right now the last wave of five packs (including the Exar Kun/Ulic Quel Droma pack) is pushed out to Spring 2010, and we don't expect that it will be out until March at this point. The Spring 2010 packs (including the ones shown at Comic Con) are cancelled, while the Wal-Mart exclusives have been delayed; they are likely to make it out but we don't know when.

GOLD 5:  Hasbro confirms with this response that we're likely to see these remaining comic 2-packs offered in Spring of 2010:

___  #9 - REPUBLIC #83 Bogey Squad Clone Commander & Clone Trooper
___  #10 - ROUTINE VALOR Clone Lieutenant & Clone Trooper
___  #11 - Tales Of The Jedi #6 - Exar Kun & Ulic Qel-Droma
___  #12 - REPUBLIC #65 - Tholme & T'ra Saa
___  #13 - MARVEL Star Wars:  Early Adventures #3 Stormtrooper, Blackhole hologram & Security droid

These WalMart exclusive comic 2-packs are delayed:

___  Star Wars: X-Wing Rogue Squadron #1 - Dllr Nep & Plour Ilo
___  Star Wars: Tales #4 - IG-97 & Rom Mohc
___  Star Wars:  X-Wing Rogue Leader #2 - Storm Commando & General Weir

And these comic 2-packs have been cancelled:

___  Knights Of The Old Republic #6 - Jarael & Rohlan Dyre
___  Legacy # 7 - Deliah Blue & Darth Nihl

HEADLINE - CLONE WARS R4-P17 DUE IN 2010

SW COLLECTOR

QUESTION:  We know that you do have some new astromechs coming up in the Clone Wars line, but that Ahsoka's R7-A7 is not among them. Does this mean that we are finally getting an animated R4-P17, or maybe Kit Fisto's R6-H5?

ANSWER:  Yes, for 2010 R4 is in the plans but we do not have plans for Kit's Astromech right now. Over time, we will be working more of the Astros into the line, perhaps using the exclusives program as well to salt them in.

GOLD 5:  Hasbro confirms that a Clone Wars version of R4-P17 is on the way in 2010.  This one seems like a bit of an afterthought since Hasbro made a point of including droid sockets in the new Jedi Starfighters, but barely any astromechs to put in the fighters.  The release of R4-P17 will be only the third astromech in the Clone Wars basic figure line.

HEADLINE - SIM ALOO "IN THE PARKING LOT"?

THE JAWA

QUESTION:  Many of us assume that one of these days, Hasbro will finally get around to releasing a Sim Aloo figure.  Would Aloo be designed/produced in a way that he will blend in with the existing Janus and Kren Blista-Vanee figures?  I'm a fan of SA and softgoods, but here my concern is that Hasbro will actually do something similar to the recent Ghost Anakin and put too much softgoods in order to ensure he is SA.  While I didn't like how Janus and Kren were basically statues, and would like Aloo to be able to do a bit more posing than his predecessors, perhaps Hasbro could stick to plastic and give Aloo arm articulation similar to your Po Nudo?   Maybe a removable hat or some accessories, but let's keep softgoods out of it so that all the Imperial Dignitaries look alike on my shelf :-)

ANSWER:  Thanks for the comment.  You may have a point in that sometimes, too much articulation may not be warranted depending on the figure, and soft goods may or may not be merited for Sim.  We don't have him in the lineup for the next couple of years but it's a good bet he'll make the lineup shortly after that; a new Imperial Dignitary, especially with the strong nod to the vintage Kenner line, is long overdue.

GOLD 5:  The quest to reproduce Kenner's full vintage figure line may be coming to a close if Imperial Dignitary Sim Aloo gets produced.  This response is far from a confirmation, but let's collectors know that Sim Aloo is "in the parking lot".

HEADLINE - PONDA BABA & DR. EVAZAN RESCULPTS CONFIRMED FOR 2011!

THE PRIVATE UNIVERSE

QUESTION:  With some great new cantina patrons out now I was wondering if or when it is likely we will see updates to some of the earlier characters like Ponda Baba, Momaw, Labria, Muftak, Dr Evazen, Wuher and Duros? All could do with some improvement in articulation to fit in better.

ANSWER:  We have some resculpts planned for an early wave in 2011 at this point. Two of the ones you ask about (Ponda Baba and Dr. Avazan) are in the lineup. Wuher would be the next we would get to after that. The rest are much lower on the list and will likely not be updated for a long time.

GOLD 5:  Hasbro lets loose confirmation that new versions of both Ponda Baba and Dr. Evazan are indeed on tap for early 2011.  Hasbro's response indicates that they're probably lined up for the early 2011 A NEW HOPE wave.

Hasbro also seems to indicate that they would like to make a new version of Wuher at some point.  But they do not commit to a timeframe in this response.

HEADLINE - DIFFERENCES IN McQUARRIE MULTIPACK DECO EXPLAINED

YAKFACE

QUESTION:  Since their reveal at SDCC, collectors who missed out on acquiring all of carded TAC McQuarrie Concept figures were overjoyed at being able to fill those holes with additions of the McQuarrie Signature Series boxed sets to their collections. Now that they have been released, those same collectors are in a state of disappointment as many of the accessories have been left out, leaving Jedi without the lightsabers, holsters without blasters to fill them and alternate head sculpts to never be displayed. What is the reasoning behind the short change considering the missing parts exist? Was it a costing issue? If so, why then were some of the figures repainted slightly from their original releases?

ANSWER:    The paint differences were not deliberate.  Nowadays, when we re-release figures, the factories have to create all new spray masks for figures if the figure has been out of production (as all of the McQuarrie figures had been).  As such, some differences, even if subtle, resulted.  This was not intentional.  Regarding the accessories, we are baffled ourselves as to why these were left out as the intention to was re-release the McQuarrie figures exactly as they were originally released. However, at this point there is nothing we can do, since we did not indicate on package that they come with anything beyond what is shown in package.

GOLD 5:  There's been some dischord in the collecting community about differences in the paint apps in the McQuarrie concept figures that were originally released in the basic figure line and the current McQuarrie concept figure multipacks that are in Toys R Us stores now.  While Hasbro's response may not be satisfactory to some, it seems that the difference in paint apps is inherent to how different production runs will yield different deco.
