Deciding to take the hobby to the next level I am trying to do more than head swaps. I was looking at the figures from the Cantina and realized some of them need upgrading. The first one I decided to upgrade was Labria. I boiled and popped his arms and legs. I replaced the arms with the swivel elbow arms of Jedi Luke from the the Sarlacc UBP. The hands are from the Wing Guard that I swapped with the Bail Organa hands. The legs are from an extra Han; Endor that were painted to match his old color scheme. He can now move his arms more than up and down. He can also bend his knees to sit (although the plastic skirt inhibits it a bit). I redid his cape by cutting the shoulder pad section away from the rest of it. I then glued on an extra soft goods cape (Biggs' I think). This allows for more movement. I painted his face and hands. I thought the original skintone was too pale. I tried to make it a dusky red color to match closer to the reference pic I have. I touched up his scarf a bit and painted the silver cuffs at his wrist. I also drybushed a little bit of aluminnium on his blaster. http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu127/sawallace1138/StarWarsfigures020.jpgLet me know what you think.

Quite a nice custom ... the shoulder pads are a bit bulky-looking, but I guess that's the price for the articulation. Nicely done.

Thanks. I realized afterwards that the Luke arms aren't as beefy as the original arms and that's why the shoulder pads look bulky.
What do you think about losing the shoulder pads? Maybe just get an extra Jedi Luke cape and cut off the hood and just use that as a cape. What do you think?

Are you talking about a fabric cape now? ... I'm not a very big fan of softgoods accessories, to be honest with you ... the pieces of fabric are usually a bit too stiff or coarse to make it look "real", you see. It gives the figure a definite "this is a TOY!" kind of look, if you see what I mean. I like the sculpted stuff better ... if that's what you're looking at here, then I think that's certainly worth exploring. You could also try sanding down the shoulder pads so that they're a bit thinner. I'm not sure if that's an option (depends on how thick they are)?

Thanks. As soon as I find another one I plan to do Saitorr. Pretty much the same way except I believe the details on the shirt and sleeves are a different green or maybe reversed (light color with darker details).

Observed quite right, but not entirely ... check out these pics: Main tone of Kitik is indeed a yellowish green but not as uniform as you now painted the critter. I would try weathering the figure now with a more yellowish green tint. You may try a gloss paint for this layer if you go for the shiny carapace of the second refpic. And to finish it, you could also try adding the dark green-brown blotches that seem to show up in the movie still.

Now here ... that looks great! A Kitik worthy of a full second screen time in the movie ...

Very nice customs darth_apathy! Customs are something I would really like to get into, but it's hard for me to find the time right now... Any pointers for someone looking to attempt their hand at customs?

But of course! As JTA, we have our very own introduction to the hobby of customizing ... go here: http://www.jeditemplearchives.com/customs/tutorial/intro.shtmlIt will take just a few minutes to read through the 7 screens but it'll give you a good introduction to what it takes in terms of skills, cost, materials etcetera. I have to add that customizing has become maybe even a tad simplier since the arrival of the ball-jointed necks: head swaps have become really easy. And other than that ... even if I'm not really actively customizing anymore at this point, I'm still lurking in the forums here and will comment on any and all customs that come to this board. And as you can see hereabove, sometimes that pays off ... And oh, if you really would like to spend time with some die-hard customizers, you can also grace www.ffurg.com with a visit.
