HASBRO STAR WARS Q&A HEADLINES - WEEK OF APRIL 27th, 2010

Check out the news you can use from the latest Hasbro Q&A session!  We've distilled down the Q&A process so that you can get right to the heart of the matter.  Hasbro has let some interesting details fly this round, and we'll be poring over things even closer than usual.

We'll also be using a somewhat different format this round.  If you've got any questions or comments, let us know!

HEADLINE - NEW BARRISS OFFEE COMING IN SPRING 2011

JEDI TEMPLE WAR ROOM

QUESTION:  The updated versions of Agen Kolar and Plo Koon in last year's basic figure line up were quite a nice surprise. Both figures look absolutely amazing and are certainly a major improvement compared to recent releases. Since the Jedi play a major part of the prequel trilogy I presume that we may see at least one or two in the Vintage Collection. Do you have any plans to release new, movie accurate versions of  Ki Adi Mundi, Eeth Koth, Adi Galia, Shaak Ti, Pablo Jill, Barriss Offee or Cin Drallig in 2010 / 2011?

ANSWER:   At some point, we hope to get to all of these, eventually.  Right now, Barriss Offee is in the works for Spring '11.  Cin Drallig was in the line for 2011, but got bumped to 2012.  We have yet to craft the full 2012 plan but we will try to keep him there, and there is a strong likelihood that several others from your list will also make their way into the line in 2012.

GOLD 5:  Hasbro had hinted late last year that a new Barriss Offee figure was in the works.  And that's a good thing, because the only other version was from the heady days of the action sculpt post.  Times have changed, and so have tastes in action figure sculpting and articulation.  This new version of Barriss Offee isn't exactly around the corner, but if it's due out in the spring of 2011 then it's highly likely that this particular figure may have been tooled for production.  And it's also very likely that Barriss's appearance on the Clone Wars animated series helped ease the process in getting this new figure made.

HEADLINE - CIN DRALLIG ON SCHEDULE FOR 2012

JEDI TEMPLE WAR ROOM

GOLD 5:  Cin Drallig has seen a good deal of fan support since REVENGE OF THE SITH came out.  And that popularity is a likely reason why Hasbro has kept the Jedi swordmaster in reserve.  After all, Hasbro has to keep us all wanting to come back for more, right?

So Cin Drallig may be about 18+ months away, after Barriss Offee of course.  And Hasbro indicates with this response that some of the other previously released prequel Jedi may get revisited.  When will that happen?  We wait with bated breath!

HEADLINE - CLONE WARS BOBA FETT CONFIRMED

JEDI TEMPLE ARCHIVES

QUESTION:  The appearance of young Boba Fett in the season finale trailer for STAR WARS - THE CLONE WARS has the collecting community abuzz.  We've already heard that a CLONE WARS Bossk (who is in the trailer) may be on the way in figure form.  But what about young Boba, and in that same regard his ship, Slave I?  Can we expect them in the fall lineup for CLONE WARS as well?

ANSWER:   We will confirm that a young Clone Wars Boba figure is on the way. As for Slave I we cannot confirm nor deny.  You will have to stay tuned.

GOLD 5:  If you haven't seen STAR WARS - THE CLONE WARS Episode 2-20 - "Death Trap" then you've missed a lot, because it has been promoted A LOT!

Boba Fett has returned to the prequel era in animated form.  And true to form, Hasbro has confirmed that young Boba will come to the Clone Wars animated figure line.  When is yet to be determined.  But this storyline may help to explain something that we saw at Toy Fair.

HEADLINE - HASBRO ON SLAVE I?  "NO COMMENT"

ECHO BASE FORUMS

QUESTION:  IF you were to release an awesome new Slave I, which colors would you release it in first (assuming it would later be repainted)? Prequel colors, to match its upcoming appearance in The Clone Wars cartoon? Or its original look, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back?

ANSWER:   If we were to release a new Slave I, it would be based on the Clone Wars deco.

GOLD 5:  Well, well, well.  This certainly is an interesting situation, isn't it?  And Hasbro's responses are almost...cheeky.

For weeks The Official Site has been teasing video of the Season 2 finale of STAR WARS - THE CLONE WARS.  And featured prominently in that video is none other than Boba Fett's ship, Slave I.

Hasbro's initial response to JTA?  A *somewhat* straightforward "No Comment".  But then Hasbro go on to answer Echo Base Forums' hypothetical about what deco a new Slave I would feature.  Hypothetically, that is.

Looking back through the history of the Hasbro Star Wars Q&A, and taking cues from that history?  Especially the non-answers?  It seems probable that a Slave I may in fact be in the works.  And that Hasbro may not be prepared to release information about a *POSSIBLE* Slave I at this time.

So what Hasbro told you was true...from a certain point of view.

HEADLINE - CLONE WARS Y-WING REPAINT IN 2011/12

ALLSPARK

QUESTION: While we know that there is no full redeco planned for the 3 3/4" scale Clone Wars Y-Wing, is there any possibility of a deco inversion? Instead of white and yellow, yellow and white? So that fans could have a show-accurate deco for Anakin and Ahsoka's bomber.

ANSWER:   Right now there are no more versions planned on the Y-Wing. It is likely we would do the red deco next, if and when we release another one. We are hopeful that we'll get to a new version in 2011 or 2012.

GOLD 5:  A rough economic climate was a key reason why the Deluxe Vehicle SKU was not a solid performer at retail, meaning that the current Clone Wars Y-Wing would be the last offering in that assortment for some time.  However, this response gives vehicle fans a reason to be optimistic, as Hasbro appears to be seriously considering a repainted version as seen in the Clone Wars episode, "The Zillo Beast".  When might this repaint happen?  Hasbro's answer indicate 2011 or 2012.

HEADLINE - HOTH LUKE SKYWALKER "IN THE PARKING LOT"

DROIDS & EWOKS

QUESTION: When can we expect to see a new figure of Luke Skywalker in his Hoth outfit? Being that it's a big year for The Empire Strikes Back, it seems like he would be a good one to have in the line. If he is in the works, can you share any details on the figure?

ANSWER:   He will not be the in the lineup this year.  This year we have the new Bespin Fatigues Luke.  We do have plans for a Hoth Luke at some point, but work hasn't started yet and it's not certain if we can fit him into the 2011 Vintage lineup or not.  He is high on our priority list though, and he'll be out within a couple years.

GOLD 5:  As collectors pore over new ways to revisit core characters, fans of Luke Skywalker have now been focusing their efforts on getting a new Hoth version of Luke.  The last version of Luke Skywalker in Hoth gear dates back to a 2004 Saga Collection release.  And by today's standards that figure is somewhat inferior.  Hasbro's response indicates that they recognize the demand for a new Hoth Luke, but the possibility of seeing it released in the Vintage Collection may be tenuous.

HEADLINE - VINTAGE COLLECTION ROTS WAVE DETAILS

HAN'S HIDEOUT

QUESTION:  Based on a recent Q&A answer, it looks like the four "new" figures in the Revenge of the Sith wave will be Senate Duel Palpatine, Anakin Skywalker, General Grievous, and Magnaguard. We've seen the picture of Grievous and we've read the recap on Palpatine. How about a quick rundown on the changes/upgrades being made to Anakin and Magnaguard that make them "new"?

ANSWER:   Anakin has a new head and arms with Sith eye deco (insert molded shoulders and elbows and pivot wrists). The Magnaguard is essentially all new, including new highly articulated legs (from a cancelled exclusive Droid Factory sequel); new torso from the waist up insert shoulder, elbows, hips, waist, knees, ankles, pivot wrist, ball neck); and a fabric cape.

GOLD 5:  Hasbro offers up some details about two figures from the VINTAGE COLLECTION'S ROTS wave with this response.  Hasbro originally confirmed the lineup of this wave which you can check out in this Jedi Temple Archives news article.

Hasbro goes on to offer some details that had been widely speculated about regarding both Anakin Skywalker and the Magna Guard droid.  Anakin will in fact feature his Sith eyes.  And the Magna Guard is an all-new figure.  This wave should be in stores in August.

HEADLINE - BMF FALCON TO BE OFFERED TO ONLINE RETAIL

JEDI INSIDER

QUESTION:  In one of the Q&A's last month you said the AT-ST would be re-released with a Hoth deco this year for the Empire Strikes Back anniversary. Are there any plans to re-release the BMF Falcon with some Empire Strikes Back love?

ANSWER:   The Millennium Falcon (new, bigger version) will not be re-released to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of EpV. However, the original version (in original blue/white packaging) will be released in limited quantities for web-retailers later this Fall.

GOLD 5:  The way Hasbro has phrased this response is somewhat questionable.  But their intent appears to be thus:  the BMF Falcon will be made available to online retail to see in limited quantities.  And that offering appears to be from existing stock in TLC BLUE packaging.

HEADLINE - GEONOSIS ARENA 2-PACK SEQUEL DUE IN FALL 2010

JEDIDEFENDER

QUESTION:  OK, so the Target Exclusive Geonosis Arena 2-packs have been out there a while now. What's the verdict then? Will we see a second series of these packs? And can you hint whether we'll see upgrades to our favorite Alien Jedi like Pablo Jill, or perhaps a couple more new Human Jedi using existing Jedi bodies with new headsculpts? I suppose you can tell we like seeing our Jedi get that super articulated upgrade?

ANSWER:   Right now, they are on the plan for later this Fall. If it stays on schedule - and there is still no guarantee - there will be some cool upgraded figures in there (including one new one). Sorry, but no Pablo Jill this time.

GOLD 5:  Good news for fans of the original Geonosis Arena 2-packs.  Hasbro's response seems to indicate that a sequel to the Target exclusive 2-packs that were originally offered in 2009 are likely to see a new wave of Jedi facing off against the Seperatists from the Geonosian Arena.  What's the character lineup?  Hasbro is staying mum on this point for now.  But in Hasbro's parlance...."Stay tuned"!

HEADLINE - JEDI LUKE TO BE REVISED....ALREADY?

JEDI-BUSINESS

QUESTION: Will Jedi Luke be re-released on a vintage card, and if so, will you make any changes to the figure?

ANSWER:  There are indeed plans for a new Jedi Luke in the Vintage format, that addresses the issues that folks have had with the proportions of the chest among other tweaks. Look for him later this year, with the figure available for preview at Comic Con.

GOLD 5:  This is indeed an interesting development.  Jedi-Business asks one question, only to open the door for Hasbro to reveal that yet ANOTHER version of Jedi Luke is in the works.  And that it's going be part of the Vintage Collection, but we'll have to wait until July to see it in all it's glory.

Keep checking back for more Q&A Headlines as sites continue to post their sessions with Hasbro!

HEADLINE - FATE OF COMIC 2-PACKS HANGS ON SUMMER '10 EXCLUSIVES

CORE PLANETS

QUESTION: Exactly how limited will the exclusive Con comic packs (Maul and Owen, Cammie and Fixxer) be and is there any preliminary plans to make the cancelled Legacy comic pack( Darth Nihl and Delilah Blue) available to fans?

ANSWER:  As a rule, we don't release production numbers on any of our toys (with certain rare expectations) because this information is a trade secret. The release numbers, thought, peg it at just below the last waves of the Legacy/Droid Factory basic figures and a little shorter than the last "Smiling Luke" Comic-Con exclusive, which did not sell through and was amply available as it did not sell through at the Convention or afterwards online at HasbroToyShop.com. If this set does well, we expect that the Darth Nihl and Deliah Blue set, if it is not picked up by a retailer before then, will become a future Comic Con exclusive along with some other Comic Packs that were put on hold in the last year.

GOLD 5:  Based on this response, there are a couple of options for the release of the Darth Nihl & Deliah Blue comic 2-pack.

-OPTION 1 - Hasbro is shopping this set to retailers to see if they will pick it up as an exclusive.

-OPTION 2 - If a retailer does not pick this set up, there is the potential to release this 2-pack as an event exclusive.  The most likely event being the 2011 San Diego Comic Con.  This is one of the few events at which Hasbro maintains an annual presence.

HOWEVER, the possibility of seeing the Darth Nihl & Deliah Blue comic 2-pack in 2011 hinges on the sales of the 2010 event exclusives.  So if this year's event exclusives do not sell well, then that could be a bad indicator for Darth Nihl & Deliah Blue.

HEADLINE - VINTAGE AT-AT PACKAGING TO DEBUT IN JULY'S STAR WARS INSIDER

HAN'S HIDEOUT

QUESTION:  At Toy Fair, you mentioned that the new AT-AT (and two other TBD vehicles) would be getting special TRU exclusive "kenner/vintage homage" packaging. The packaging wasn't ready as of Toy Fair... any chance it's ready now so that we can get a sneak peek of the modern interpretation of the classic vintage box? And any comment on the rumor that the starship of our favorite smuggler just might be another one of the ships getting the vintage package treatment?

ANSWER:  Actually, we said that only the AT-AT in Vintage packaging would be a TRU exclusive. The other two, which are Starfighter-size, are coming to another retailer later this Fall. So that rules out the Slave 1 being re-released in Vintage packaging. As for how the package will look, Star Wars Insider will be debuting this in an upcoming issue, so new preview is available. Sorry!

IMPERIAL SHIPYARDS

QUESTION:  Can we get a picture of the toysrus exclusive boxed version of the new At-At coming out? As we understand, it will be given a special vintage boxed deco and there will be two other ships given this same vintage retro feel? Any chance we could get exact dimensions on the size of this new behemoth?

ANSWER:  The Vintage version of the AT-AT will be exactly the same size as the recent large-format figure boxes (Turbo Tank, AT-TE). We are debuting the packaging in an upcoming issue of Star Wars Insider, so we can't send images out until they have a chance to showcase this cool beast. As for the vehicle itself, it is 24 tall x 28.5 long...a good chunk larger than the original when seen side-by-side!

JEDI INSIDER

QUESTION:  At Toy Fair you all mentioned that 3 vehicles would be released with variant vintage packaging, 1 being the AT-AT that will be exclusive to Toys R' Us stores. Any word on the other two, and will these be TRU exclusives as well, also can we get a look at that AT-AT vintage packaging?

ANSWER:  It's too early to release the names of the other two, but these will not be TRU exclusive; they belong to another account. The Vintage AT-AT package will be debuting in Star Wars Insider July issue, and as such we are holding until they have a chance to introduce it. We can tell you that it is fantastic!

GOLD 5:  Q&A reader's got to see a running theme with this particular question!  Hasbro revealed to the collector media at Toy Fair that the new AT-AT would be offered in exclusive vintage style packaging, but with photography featuring the modern era toys.  The AT-AT in vintage packaging will be exclusive to Toys R Us, with the SHADOW OF THE DARK SIDE packaged version being offered by other retailers.

Additionally, two other vehicles will also be offered in the Kenner vintage style packaging.  On this front Hasbro was playing coy at Toy Fair.  What they could reveal was that one of the two TESB themed vehicles shown at Toy Fair would also be offered in Kenner style packaging.  Most likely as an exclusive.  Whether it will be the Cloud Car or the Snowspeeder remains to be seen.

The big reveal from these Q&A sessions?  We'll get our first look at the AT-AT in the July issue of the Star Wars Insider.

HEADLINE - HOTH BATTLE PACKS INCOMING

LICHTGESCHWINDIGKEIT (SPEED OF LIGHT)

QUESTION:  Will we see a return of the Ultimate Battlepacks this year? If so, can you share any information of what to expect? And how about a different Hoth Battlepack in the future that includes an Ion Cannon?

ANSWER:  While we will not release specifics, the Hoth packs coming later this year will be bigger than the current Battle Packs, but not quite as large and pricey as the original Ultimate Battle Packs. So in general, you are hunting in the right area, although the Ion Cannon is still way too big for us to execute.

GOLD 5:  Here's an interesting response from Hasbro.  At Toy Fair Hasbro revealed an Imperial themed Hoth Battle Pack which features Darth Vader, a Snowtrooper, E-Web, Scout Trooper & Speeder Bike.  But their response here uses the plural Hoth packs, which clearly indicates that there will be at least 2 Hoth themed battle packs slated for 2010.  The content of another Hoth battle pack is yet to be determined.

The other interesting aspect of this response?  That these new Hoth battle packs are slated to be larger than normal.  Hasbro clearly states that they won't be as big as 2007's Ultimate Battle Packs, but this leaves a number of possibilities wide open.

HEADLINE - HOTH REBEL TROOPER RUNNING CHANGE UPDATE

LICHTGESCHWINDIGKEIT (SPEED OF LIGHT)

QUESTION: We are still waiting to see the release of the non-bearded Hoth Rebel Trooper. Will he make it onto the new Vintage style cards or are you holding on to release him in a battlepack? He would make a nice addition on a single card considering the 30th Anniversary of ESB.

ANSWER:  He will be released in one of the new Battle Packs mentioned above, later this Fall. At some point we do not rule out a release on a Vintage card, but that would be far out in the future if we did.

GOLD 5:  Hasbro references their previous response to Speed Of Light regarding the Hoth Rebel Trooper.  So what will the other Hoth battle pack consist of?  Well, this Hoth Rebel Trooper for one.  As for anything else?  We wait with bated breath!

HEADLINE - ENDOR REBEL TROOPER DETAILS EMERGE

YAKFACE

QUESTION:  Last session you confirmed a new Endor Commando for the Vintage line. Will it be jacket/pants rebel or the jumpsuit rebel from the vintage and POTF2 line that is long over due an update?

ANSWER:  It's the trench coat Rebel, similar to the one that Sideshow just did.

GOLD 5:  Hasbro previously confirmed that a new Endor Rebel Trooper would be on the way in late 2010 in this Q&A session with Dewback Patrol.  This week's comments to Yakface indicate that Hasbro has based this new Endor Commando on Sideshow's Endor Rebel Commando Sergeant which features the trench coat.  Sideshow's Endor Sergeant features facial hair, but in the session with Dewback Patrol Hasbro indicates that they may make the new Endor Rebel clean shaven.
